Here's what Mayo ASA is really about, and where the idea came from.
Our mission
We want Mayo ASA to be a real community for Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi students, and allies too, built around culture and connection, with room to actually help people along the way.
A lot of us are looking for a real sense of belonging and a way to connect over where we come from, especially since our school doesn't even offer Asian language or cultural classes. We've already got some great culture clubs here, but an ASA fills in what they don't: a space for Asian students and allies to celebrate who we are, and a way to actually do something about real problems too, like raising money for disaster relief overseas.

Culture and community, first
Wilson Wang, Chen Liang, Kevin Wang, and Nathaniel Yuan (that's us) started Mayo ASA because we wanted Asian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi students at Mayo to have a real space of their own. Regular meetings, cultural celebrations, food, traditions. Honestly, just something that didn't already exist here.
You don't have to be Asian, Pacific Islander, or Desi to join, either. Allies are just as welcome, no questions asked. And when we've got the energy for it, we try to turn that into something bigger, like raising money for Nepal flood relief.
Giving back doesn't stop at Mayo
We're running a fundraiser for Nepal flood relief, to help people recovering from the flash floods that hit Nepal in August 2026. Real relief, not just a hashtag.
It's not some separate side project. It's just what happens when people who already look out for each other decide to look a little further. Check out our Global Impact page for the full details and how to help.
